The Honresfield Library

Work / The British Library / Honresfield Library

We were commissioned to create a documentary - titled Homecoming - celebrating the rescue of the Honresfield Library, a literary treasure trove.

The feature-length documentary was supported by mini-docs focusing on each of the four author's works featured in the collection.

The Honresfield Library was formed towards the end of the 19th century by William Law (1836-1901), a Rochdale mill owner, who created an exceptional collection of English and Scottish manuscripts and printed books.

It had the Brontës at its heart, as well as manuscripts in the hands of Jane Austen, Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott and a significant collection of printed books.

Following a fundraising campaign the works in the library were acquired for the nation and have been distributed to a series of partners including the British Library.

The series

Individual films focus on each of the author's works; the Brontës, Jane Austen, Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott.

Social edits of each take their stories to a new audience, with content ranging from a 30-minute documentary screened to invited guests at the British Library, to TikTok snippets.
